Notes on Description Project
ENGL305, Fall 2005, Professor Baldwin
Remember, the goal is to create a model of the thing described using words and possibly images. Your reader should picture it in her mind.
Possible organization of a description:
1) Summary (naming/defining object)
2) Background (if necessary)
3) Parts
4) Characteristics
5) Conclusion (perhaps considering uses)
6) References (if necessary)
Parts vs. Characteristics
Characteristics should be specific (i.e. use of number and naming)
Possible sources of characteristics:
color, shape, texture, methods of attachment, pattern, design, subparts, temperature, height, width, length, depth, weight, ingredients, moisture content, materials, location, amount, age, finish, smell
