ENGL 273 / Fall 2005. Professor Baldwin. Questions for revising drafts of Essay 1.
- What is the question or exploration of the essay? Does it make this exploration a significant and interesting way into the text? How could this be improved?
- Is the exploration too narrow or too broad? Does it need to be clarified or extended? How could this be improved?
- Consider organization. Is there a clear progression in the essay? Does each paragraph logically follow the exploration? Do the parts within the paragraph support the exploration, i.e. do the sentences form a logical progression? How could this be improved?
- Does the document include an introduction and conclusion? How can these be improved?
- Does the essay include support and evidence? Are these adequately explained and integrated into the exploration? Are they properly cited?
- Does this exploration draw you in? How does the writer show his/her interest in the topic? How does the writer make you interested? How could this be improved?
- Is the language of the essay clear and accurate? Are there specific patterns or places where the language is unclear or inaccurate? How could this be improved?
- What else should the writer know?
